Zribi (CESBIO), K. Law, J. Delanoë, J. Pelon D. Hauser, M. Dechambre, G. Ancellet, J.-C. Raut (LATMOS), E. Defer (LERMA), F. Remy (LEGOS), P. Dubois-Fernandez (ONERA), V. Catoire (LPC2E), L. Perez, A. Bourdon, J.-F. Bourdinot, D. Duchanoy, A. Butet (SAFIRE)
The airborne community gathered during a colloquium organized by SAFIRE (Service des Avions Français Instrumentés pour la Recherche en Environnement) early February 2013 . A round-table was organized to discuss the potential contribution of the SAFIRE aircraft to the Arctic Chantier. The description of the 2 SAFIRE aircraft, an ATR 42 and a Falcon 20 can be found on the SAFIRE web site (http://www.safire.fr). Both aircraft can operate in Arctic conditions from remote locations such as Spitsbergen and Greenland.
Many French laboratories involved in airborne experimentation/science have world class expertise as well as possesses state-of-the-art instrumental in situ and remote sensing payloads in the following fields:
1 Chemistry and aerosols
-Pollution and air quality (local pollution sources, pollution in the high Arctic, …)
-Biochemical cycles
-Stratospheric ozone
2 Atmospheric dynamics
-Air-sea interactions
-Atmospheric boundary layers
-Polar lows
3 Clouds process studies in interaction with aerosols
-Polar stratospheric clouds and exchanges in the UTLS region
-Boundary layer clouds
4 Sea and continental surfaces
-Ice sheet and snow
-Sea ice
-Sea state (ice-free sea)
5 Satellites cal/val
